4 ways to Teach your Child the Connecting Letters in Arabic.

Scroll to the end to download a copy of your poster

When I began teaching the Arabic letters in their cursive form, I needed a way that my students could understand and relate to easily.

In lesson 2 of Qawaaida Nooraniyyah, it starts off with two to three joined-up letters. Some children are able to distinguish each letter effortlessly. Without any explicit instructions, they are able to connect clues from the shape of the letter and make a pretty accurate guess. Whilst other children need this lesson to be deconstructed even further.

Having a passion for the Arabic language and graphic design. I was motivated to design worksheets, (which I hope to turn into workbooks in the future inshallah) to teach children how to successfully decode letters within words.

I found that introducing the four forms; isolated, beginning, middle, end, of each letter to be quite effective. Instead of a combination of letters in no cohesive order like some traditional books. I began with similar group letters, like the 3 Big Belly Brothers Jeem, Haa and Khaa

Dua for Protection Against Harm Poster (free download)

It was narrated that Abaan ibn ‘Uthmaan (may Allah be pleased with him) said, narrating from ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say: “Whoever says ‘Bismillah illadhi la yadurru ma’a ismihi shay’un fi’l-ard wa la fi’l-sama’ wa huwa al-samee’ ul-‘aleem (In the name of Allah with Whose name nothing can harm on earth or in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing)’, three times, will not be stricken with a sudden affliction until morning comes, and whoever says them when morning comes will not be stricken with a sudden affliction until evening comes.”
He said: Abaan ibn ‘Uthmaan was afflicted with paralysis and the man who had heard this hadith from him started looking at him. He said to him: Why are you looking at me? By Allah, I did not tell a lie about ‘Uthmaan and ‘Uthmaan did not tell a lie about the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). But the day which that (paralysis) befell me, I got angry and forgot to say them.
Narrated by Abu Dawood (5088). It was also narrated by at-Tirmidhi in his Sunan (no. 3388) as follows:
“There is no one who says in the morning of every day and the evening of every night ‘Bismillah illadhi la yadurru ma’a ismihi shay’un fi’l-ard wa la fi’l-sama’ wa huwa al-samee’ ul-‘aleem (In the name of Allah with Whose name nothing can harm on earth or in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing)’, three times but nothing will harm him.”
At-Tirmidhi said: It is hasan saheeh ghareeb. It was classed as saheeh by Ibn al-Qayyim in Zaad al-Ma‘aad (2/338) and by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.
Dr ‘Abd ar-Razzaaq al-Badr said:
This is one of the great adhkaar that the Muslim should recite every morning and evening, so that he may be protected thereby, by Allah’s leave, against being struck by a sudden calamity or disastrous harm or the like. Al-Qurtubi (may Allah have mercy on him) said concerning this hadith: This is a saheeh report and true words that have been proven to us by experience. Ever since I heard it I acted upon it, and nothing harmed me until I omitted to do it. A scorpion stung me in Madinah one night, and when I thought about it I realised that I had forgotten to seek refuge with Allah by reciting these words.
See: al-Futoohaat ar-Rabbaanyyah by Ibn ‘Allaan (3/100).
The Sunnah with regard to this dhikr is to say it three times every morning and evening, as the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) taught.
The words “illadhi la yadurru ma‘a ismihi shay’un fi’l-ard wa la fi’l-sama’ (with Whose name nothing can harm on earth or in heaven)”mean: whoever seeks refuge in the name of Allah, no calamity can harm him from the direction of the earth or from the direction of heaven.
And the words “wa huwa al-samee‘ ul-‘aleem (and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing)” mean: He hears all that people say and knows all their deeds, none of which are hidden from Him on earth or in heaven.

Dua For Protection Against Diseases (Free Download)

Dua is a weapon for the believer. Every believing man and woman should recite their supplications regularly, with certainty, trusting in the Lord, the One who controls whatever is in the heavens and in the Earth, the Almighty and who's hand is able to withhold, cause harm and bring benefit, He is the Glorified and Exalted.

It was narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to say: “Allahumma inni a ‘oodhu bika min al-barasi wa’l-junooni wa’l-judhaami wa min sayyi’ il-asqaam (O Allah, I seek refuge with you from leprosy, and from insanity, and from paralysis, and from evil diseases).”
Narrated by Ahmad (12592), Abu Dawood (1554) and an-Nasaa’i; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.
At-Teebi said: The reason why he did not seek refuge with Allah from sicknesses in general terms is that some sicknesses may be easy to bear but bring a great deal of reward if one bears them with patience and they are not chronic, such as fevers, headaches and inflammations of the eye. Rather the hadith is seeking refuge with Allah from chronic sickness, which can lead a person into a situation where a close friend will flee from him and he will not have many people around him to comfort him and take care of him, and – moreover – may carry a great deal of stigma.
Narrated by al-‘Azeemabaadi in ‘Awn al-Ma‘bood.

Fraction Strips (Free Printable)

Click on the link below for youf free fraction strips copy, and scroll down for the fraction strips blank version.

Fraction strips are narrow, rectangular pieces of colored paper of varying lengths used to teach fractions. I have designed large fraction strips that can be coloured in various colors, and can be folded and cut up to represent different fractional parts. Fractional parts are equal shares that makeup a whole. For example, it takes five 1/5 pieces to makeup one whole. Fractional strips are a great way to model equivalent fractions.

What's my 6 to 7 year old been up to?

My daughter had just turned six when we relocated to another city from Saudi's capital to the eastern province. My DD typically doesn't mind change, in fact she looks forward to the unknown and adapts anywhere as long as she has the security of her family by her side.

Restarting our home school education after a long 3 month summer/autumn break was easier than I thought, DD initiated her own independent studies and left me to do the unpacking for our new home, I'll really appreciated that.

Her progress between 6 to 7 years old has been easy going for her, since this year was about revision.
