  10. Game of fractions box
  11. DIY waldorf multiplication star board.
  12. 3D wooden shapes and matching picture cards
  13. Scales for mass measurements

Maths Rota
I made this Math rota to keep on track with each topic and to give its fair share of time in developing each skill. My DD would follow this rota everyday, choosing a topic per day or every other day.

Flash card exercise

Flash Cards

We have plenty of flash cards at hand for when we want an easy day of just review and practice. This is one of the ways we use flash cards for independent learning, my little girl would line them up from one end of the room to the other and work her way answering each sum, she enjoys the challenge of getting them all correct and sometimes likes to beat the clock. Other ways is to do it with me and I would hold up the sum and she would answer it, whatever she gets right she gets to keep the card.

Matching 3D shapes to its name

3D Shapes

We like to do alot of school work on the floor instead of at a desk and chair, as you may have noticed from our pictures throughout my blog, and this is because the children are more mobile and they enjoy the movement whilst they are learning, this is better for their bodies and posture, instead of being restricted to a chair.
3D shapes paper craft hung on our wall shelf
For shapes we learnt about the basics of 2D shapes and started this year on 3D shapes. This paper craft was a nice little supplement to teach 3D shapes as it invovled measurement, accuracy, using a ruler, cutting and folding to create your desired shape.

Measurement

using scales to learn measurement

As for using these scales in the picture above, we used Legos to measurement the weight.This particular photo we were combining multiplications with weight as to make it fun. So I would ask DD what is 8 x 3 the same as? and she would guess the answer then place her Legos onto the scales to see if it balanced which made it correct, the answer being 4 x 6, the game was to make her aware that times tables follow patterns.

Measurement comes in all forms, different types of measurement use different forms. For example centimeters, inches, foot, meters etc measures length or distance. Others include measuring mass or temperature  or time. I have been covering mostly time, length and mass. So a ruler or varying sizes are also good to have as well as a soft measuring tape that reaches 3 or 5 meters. To introduce mass measurements we baked cookies or made pizza using a recipe that she would carefully follow.

So that was a taster of how we use some of our resources, I hope you enjoyed this post,  subscribe and comment below what your Math favorites are.
