Montessori Seven Continents (inc. FREE Printable)

Geography

Montessori The Seven Continents

(keep reading to claim you free 3 part cards)

Recently we have started a new project covering the seven continents. We started off learning about the names, facts and identifying where it is on the map. I set up an area for the work to be displayed and easily referenced. We used the Montessori Seven Continents colors;

North America = Orange
South America = Pink
Africa = Green
Europe = Red
Asia = Yellow
Australia = Brown
Antarctica = White

Who said learning isn't fun. DD5 and DS3 learning about the seven continents with playdough.
This is how we introduced the unit by learning the Seven continents song and then using a laminated world map and rolling and shaping out Play-dough onto each continent all the whilst singing the song.

The Lyrics to the Montessori Seven Continent Song is;

"Tell me the continents,
tell me the continents,
tell me if you can,
there's North America
South America
Africa
Europe
and Asia
don't forget Austrailia
don't forget Antartica
Tell me the continents,

tell me the continents,
tell me if you can!"

This sensorial activity helps the child to classify each of the continents in a fun and enjoyable way.

We also did a matching activity that I DIY'ed by tracing the colored paper onto the outline of the continent then cut it out and laminated with its label.

Working on matching continents to its name and positioning them in the correct place as on the world map. And coloring in the activity sheet.

A closer look

The purpose of this activity is to get the child to familiarize themselves with the world map and its layout.

DS3, collection of assorted animal figures, world map, Animal Atlas Childrens Book and Interactive electronic Animal Map (Animap)
My DS3 also wanted to join in, and the display looked quite inviting, so i guided him to place the animals correctly on the map using the Animap and Animal Picture Atlas as the reference, he had quite the time playing with this activity.
